Unit 2 Guide
APT is The glucose from a plant gets changed in an animal to adenosine triphosphate. ATP is made inside mitochondria and chloroplasts. The cells use the energy stored in the ATP to power the functions of the cell.
Cellular respiration is when cells transform oxygen and other nutrients into energy.
Plants have mitochondria and chloroplasts that have chlorophyll, it looks like a bag of coins. Plants have stomata and this helps get oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out.
C6 H12 O6 + 6O = 6CO2 + 6H20 + ATP (cellular respiration)
This means glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + energy is cellular respiration
Autotrophs make their own food, example plants
Heterotrophs get food from other organism, example animals.
Carbs - sugar molecules (simple - quick burst of energy, complex - takes time to digest)
Protein - build muscles
Fats - stored energy
Vitamins - Essential for normal growth
Minerals - assist the body
Minerals and Vitamins are not considered food because they don’t provide energy.
Proteins- required for structure and regulation of the body and tissues and organs.
Carbs- the body's primary source of energy, protects your organs.
Vitamins- helping to fight infection, wound healing, making our bones stronger.
Minerals- keeping your bones, muscles, heart, and brain working properly, also important for making enzymes and hormones.
Water- regulates blood temperature, moistens tissues in the eyes, protects body organs and tissues,
If you eat too many calories, we might get obese or overweight. If we have few calories, then we might get under weight
Metabolism is chemical process that occurs to maintain life
BMR is the amount of calories needed in a day when the body is at rest.
