M5L6 - Indirect DR Detectors

What is the process of indirect flat panel detection?

  • X Rays interacting with a scintillator > x rays are converted into light > light hits photodetector > photodetector converts light into electrons > stored TFT array

What is a scintillator made out of?

  • Cesium iodide or gadolinium oxysulfide

What is amorphous silicone?

  • Photodetector

Why do we use gadolinium oxysulfide?

  • When the xray hits it and turns into light it emits at all directions. It is not efficient and does not hit the photodetector. Originally used for portable detectors because it is tougher

Why do we use cesium iodide?

  • It is a structured phosphor and directs the light converted to the photodetector. It is more efficient. Has good spatial resolution. It is more delicate
