• They both had attended Universal Chiropractic College

• 1924, HB opened an office at 5th avenue and Broadway in LA

  • Then relocated it to 7th and Broadway

Charles Wood, DC

• the LACC was the best Chiro college

• They gave you a bunch of stuff for your practice when you graduated

In late 1920s, the scope of practice in CA had a fused between “straight” Chiros and “mixer” Chiros: “The Straight-Mixer war”

HB Logan lost his license to practice in CA in 1929, on the grounds that he had reciprocated from Nevada in order to avoid the 2,400 hours of training required by law

• this was when he went into teaching Technique, because you didn’t need a license to teach

• Wasn’t widely accepted

• HB liked this at first

  • He taught it all over CA in the 1930’s

  • Only taught for 6 months, then he argued with Hurley that it might not work

1934- BJ Palmer declared the ICA would not defend Logan Basic

You used to have to sign a paper stating you would not teach Logan Basic if you learned it.

Warren Lee, DC

• Co-founder of Activator Methods

• Used to be called the Lee Technique and the gun was a “Lee gun”

1934, HB Logan moved his seminar company to Aurora, Illinois

• back then it took 2 weeks to learn Basic

• Developed the ICRF (international Chiropractor Research Foundation)

• The move from CA is why Minnie and HB divorced. Minnie didn’t want to leave CA

College of Chiropractic Research Foundation = first name of Logan University

• became Logan College of Chiropractic 2 years later

• the school was owned by HB at first because ICRF couldn’t afford it

• school opened September 1st in 1935, 7 students started, but 8 graduated together

  • Andrew Murray started late

    • He was also the last person from the first class to pass away

• Very first student enrolled was HB’s secretary= Fern Schmutzler

Moved to Normandy campus in 1936

Became “Logan basic college of Chiropractic” in 1937
