  • Many European nations began to build arsenals/new tech in order to compete with Britain.

  • was known as “arms race”.

  • Trying to develop more military/tech then Britain.

  • each nation was racing to have more weapons/arms.

Alliances

  • Triple Entente (Allies): Britain, Russia, France.

  • Triple Alliance (Central Powers): Italy, Austria-Hungary, Germany.

  • They promised each other mutual military support if attacked.

Imperialism

  • The desire to control/own more lands and resources.

  • tension between imperial powers (particularly Britain & Germany) grew strong as they competed for territory.

Nationalism

  • The desire to unite & maintain strong ties with others of the ethnic background.

  • Intense form of patriotism & sense of connection to country.
