To the Roman Christians

  1. Paul recommends a friend and servant of the church of Cenchrea, Phoebe.

    1. A woman deacon of the church that Paul seems to have trusted greatly with ministering to the Roman people

  2. Paul also recommends Priscilla and Aquilla, a Christian couple that helped Paul in the past

  3. Paul goes on to send his recommendations of various other people he knows in Rome

    1. Empaenetus: One of the first Roman converts

    2. Mary: Who Paul says labored hard for them

    3. Andronicus and Junia: Countrymen who were in prison with Paul

    4. Amplias: A good friend

    5. Urbanus: A servant of God

    6. Stachys: A good friend

    7. Apelles: A servant of God

    8. Herodian: A fellow countryman

    9. Tryphena and Tryphosa: Who have labored for the Lord

    10. Persis: Who labored in the Lord

    11. Rufus and his mother: Chosen in the Lord

    12. Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobus, Hermes, Phililogus, Julia, Nereus and sister, and Olympas

    13. The households of Narcissus and Aristobulus

  4. Warnings

    1. Beware of those who cause division contrary to Jesus’ teaching and avoid them

    2. They serve their own needs rather than Jesus’ commands

    3. They try to take advantage of the simple minded’s obedience to Christ

    4. Be wise in what is good and simple in what is evil

    5. God will crush Satan under their feet
