Nail plate - visible portion of the nail and attached to nail bed
Free edge - end portion of the nail
Nail root - where the nail begins

Nail bed - the skin where the nail plate rests
Matrix part of the nail bed that has blood vessels and nerves ( located beneath the nail root and produces cells that generate and harden the nail which is called Keratin!)
Lunula - half moon shape of the nail
