descriptive

  • the idea that the world that the world is a set of places and each place can be studied and is destinct. every place described differently

social constructionist

  • sees a place as a product of a particular set of social processes occuring at a particular time

  • does a place really have meaning if noone live/does anything there?

  • peoples meaning defines a place

  • was buiilt to remember / comemorate british history (wars and colinisation)

  • old buildings and statues and war memorials

  • place for protesting and freedom of speech

  • has a 4th plinth for modern art

phenomenological

  • this is not intrested in unique characteristics or why it was constructed. instead it is intrested in how an individual person experiences and places, recognised a highly personal relatioship between place and person

  • an extremly strong sense of place

  • an attachment of a place place to personal identity and culture
