1906 - After 23 days in Jail, DD Palmer paid his fine and sold the school to BJ Palmer for $2,196.79 with a do-not-compete clause
Willard Carver - Attorney-chiropractor - est. the “Kiro-Practic College and Infirmary” with LL. Denny, D.C. in Oklahoma City
Palmer and Gregory opened “Palmer-Gregory College of Chiropractic” in Oklahoma City.
DD then moved to Portland, OR to open “DD Palmer College of Chiropractic” which later became “Western States”
while in Oregon he wrote his first book (1910) that was basically just all his writings and stories put together in one book. It was called by 2 titles:
“The Art, Science and Philosophy of Chiropractic”
“The Chiropractor’s Adjuster”
DD then moved to Los Angeles, CA to teach at Rutledge System of Chiropractic Schools
later said to C.S. Cleveland to become the “Cleveland College of Chiropractic”
After DD’s book he came up with his 3rd theory: the Theory of Subluxation
Innate intelligence
Subluxations caused by:
Toxins
Physical insults (trauma)
Auto-suggestion (thoughts) “you can think yourself sick and you can think yourself well”
He believed that most subluxations would be in the spine and the feet
DD and Mary (5th wife) went to Davenport in 1913 to meet his grandson, David
Attended BJ’s Chiro-parade.
False rumor that DD was struck by a car at this parade
DD died in Los Angeles, CA a few months later on October 20, 1913 from “Typhoid Fever” and “tendency for years to brain congestion”
Thought to be basically Alzheimer’s
Wanted to be remembered “He did his best” - poem he wrote years before his death
Loban was the 1st Non-Palmer to teach Chiropractic at Palmar College
he took BJ to court 3 times
Mary published DD’s second book “The Chiropractor” by compiling his papers
“BJ of Davenport” written by Dr Joseph Keating
Bartlett Joshua Palmer: (BJ) born Sept 10, 1881. Youngest of 5 to DD.
did not get along with Villa Thomas
Left to work at the circus
Returned at age 17 in 1900.
Graduated fo DD’s school in Jan. 1902 as 15th graduate
Ran school with DD for the first few years, and took it over when DD left
Moved the school to 828 Brady street in 1903
