Direct and Manage Project Work
Direct and manage project work is an integration process. It represents all the processes involved in executing the project, including scope, schedule, and other processes.
Process Overview
- Direct and Manage Project Work: This process encompasses all the processes required to execute a project.
- It involves managing knowledge, ensuring quality, acquiring resources, and developing the project team.
Direct and Manage Project Work
- This process involves performing the work defined in the project management plan.
- The project management plan consists of 18 components, including management plans, scope baseline, cost baseline, and schedule baseline.
- The executing process involves:
- Managing people
- Keeping team members engaged
- Improving processes
- Requesting and implementing approved changes
- If a change request is approved, it must be implemented.
- Example: If the initial plan is to paint a room white, but a stakeholder requests to paint it green, the change is assessed and approved, then execute the change and paint the room green.
Outputs
Deliverables
- The primary output of this process is deliverables.
- The objective is to complete the work as outlined in the project plan.
- Example: If the plan is to build a 20-story skyscraper, the deliverable is the completed skyscraper.
- Work performance data originates from the executing processes.
- It includes information about the status of work, tracking against the baseline, start and end dates, and costs.
Issue Log
- An issue log is a record of all negative issues affecting the project.
- It tracks events that have already occurred and are causing problems.
- Example: Team members being consistently late or materials being delayed.
- This is different from the risk which is a probable event that may or may not happen.
Change Requests
- Change requests are generated when the project deviates from the plan.
- This includes requests for:
- More time
- More money
- Corrective actions: Actions implemented to bring the project back on plan.
- Preventive actions: Actions implemented to prevent the project from going off plan.
- Defect repairs: Fixing any defects in the product that require additional time or money.
Summary
- Direct and manage project work is an integration process that represents all the executing processes.
- Its main output is the deliverable, which results from completing the work outlined in the project plan.
