Neutrality/Isolation – Foreign policy used between WWI and WWII to keep the United States out of world affairs
Good Neighbor Policy – FDR’s foreign policy toward Latin America that was meant to improve relations with the U.S. (fulfilled by taking troops out, etc.)
Washington Naval Conference – Agreement to cut naval supplies/ships; Tries to keep U.S. out of future wars by creating peace with international agreement
Dawes Plan – Economic plan to reinvigorate economies of U.S., Britain/France, and Germany
Kellogg-Briand Pact – World nations promise to never go to war again; Tries to keep U.S. out of future wars by creating peace with international agreement
Appeasement – Agreement to the demands of a potential enemy in order to keep the peace; Ex. Munich Conference when Hitler was allowed to take part of Czechoslovakia
Neutrality Acts – Don’t want Americans to repeat mistakes that brought us into WWI; Try to stay out of European affairs with Hitler, Mussolini, etc.
Cash and Carry Policy – U.S. will trade with countries that pay with money and move supplies back to their own nations with their own transportation; Shows move from neutrality to more direct involvement before WWII
Destroyers for Bases Deal – U.S. gives Britain old ships in return for bases for the United States from Britain; Shows move from neutrality to more direct involvement before WWII
Arsenal of Democracy Speech – FDR promises to make all weapons necessary to give to the Allies; Shows move from neutrality to more direct involvement before WWII
Lend-Lease Act – FDR says we must allow Allies to borrow money and military supplies in order to protect U.S. security in the future; Shows move from neutrality to more direct involvement before WWII
Atlantic Charter – FDR and Churchill’s goals for post-war world; Similar to Wilson’ 14 Points (to have peace)
Pearl Harbor - DIRECT attack on U.S. soil that brings U.S. into the war
