Class Preparation and Syllabus Review

Class Preparation and Attendance

It's important to wake up early and stay attentive in class due to the dense material. Bring necessary items such as snacks, lunch, coffee, or energy drinks to stay awake. The class structure may sometimes be slightly monotonous due to the condensed summer schedule.

Introductions and Icebreaker

The instructor takes roll call and notes preferred names. As an icebreaker, students share their alternate career choices if money were not a concern.

Syllabus Overview

The syllabus is reviewed quickly due to the volume of material to cover. A short break is scheduled after the syllabus review, followed by the lecture.

Instructor Information

The instructor aims to be available by 10:00 AM and encourages students to reach out with any concerns 30 minutes before class. If needed, meetings can be arranged via Zoom, with Thursdays being the most open day due to a lighter teaching schedule.

Course Materials and Technology

The required textbook is available through FA Davis. Students should ensure they can log in to FA Davis. Announcements will be made via Canvas. Students need a laptop or tablet for quizzes and exams. Loaner devices are available if needed.

Grading Breakdown

The course grade is composed of the following:

  • 5% for class attendance.
  • 5% for completing FA Davis modules (all-or-nothing credit each week).
  • 10% for presentations.
  • 10% for quizzes (semi-weekly, approximately six quizzes in total).
  • 20% for Exam 1.
  • 20% for Exam 2.
  • 30% for the final exam.
