Reports

  • The report must be a concise but detailed account of experimental method. Each observation and step must be adequately explained.

  • Lab reports should be written in third person.

  • Any abbreviations should be introduced the first time it is used.

Abstract

  • The shortest overview possible of the experiment with 300 characters or less.

  • Mention observations and results.

  • No numbers or data.

Introduction

  • Introduce the reader to the experiment or process being used. This should be aimed at a scientifically literate audience that has a basic familiarity with some chemistry (someone who has completed all of first year chemistry courses).

  • Brief history of method and minimum of one example and reference to method being used in literature.

  • Explain why the experiment is important and what it can tell us.
