5th amendment:
- right to be indicted by a grand jury, doesn’t apply to the states
- can’t be tried for the same crime twice
- can testify against yourself
- Live, liberty, and property can’t be taken away without due process (a trial or wtv)
- The idea is yes the property is yours but the public good can override the property rights (Eminent domain), however, they have to pay for it (just compensation)
6th amendment: only criminal trials
- a speedy and public trial
- Impartial jury
- know the nature of the charge
- right to face your accuser
- right to console
- confrontation of witness
7th amendment:
- ensures that citizen's civil cases can be heard and decided upon by a jury of their peers
- has not been incorporated, doesn’t apply to the states
8th amendment (applies to states)
- excessive bail is not required
