  • Grievances   Both Britan and France had captured over 1000 American ships   British forces seized American sailors and forced them to work for the British navy
  • \   Tecumseh’s Confederacy   In 1809, General William Henry Harrison persuaded several Native American chiefs to sign away millions of acres of tribal land to the U.S.Tecumesh (a Native American leader) made a confederacy to fight for the lands   In 1811, the Amercans won
  • The War Hawks   People who demanded war against Britan   Led by legislators John C. Calhoun and Henry Clay   Congress approved their war decleration
  1. The War Brings Mixed Results:
  • War in Canada   U.S. forces attacked the British in Canada
  • War at Sea   A U.S. Navy fleet defeated the British on Lake Erie
  • British Burn the White House   In 1814 the British launched a successful attack on Washington D.C. and President Madison had to flee the city
  • Battle of New Orleans   U.S. General Andrew Jackson scored a victory in the Battle of New Orleans
  • Treaty of Ghent   Ended the war of 1812 in 1814
