Scene description
Visualize a lovely, warm summer morning on the beach; seagulls are flying in flocks, wave after wave of water crashing against the coast, and a beautiful sun rise appearing on the horizon. Beachgoers are enjoying the moment, soaking up the morning sun, and children are running along the beach, playing.
How Do You Build a Good Story Without the Plot?
Here are some ways to do it:
Start with a theme or emotion: What do you want your readers to feel? Grief, hope, love, betrayal? Build the story around that feeling.
Character-driven stories: Focus on a character who embodies the essence of the story. Once you understand the character’s desires, flaws, and fears, you can build a plot around how those traits are challenged or tested.
Imagine an ending: Sometimes knowing how you want the story to end can help you figure out the rest of it. You may have an emotional climax in mind, like a character's realization or a key moment, and then you can work backward from there to shape the plot.
Visualize key moments: What are the "pivotal" moments or emotional beats you want to hit in the story? This can help guide your plot, even if the details aren't there yet.
