Paul’s letters to Roman Christians
Introduces himself as a bondservant to Jesus who wishes to spread the gospel
Introduces Jesus
Died for our sins
Son of God
Resurrected
Gave us grace and apostleship
Addressing Rome
Grace and peace from God to those in Rome who are called to be saints
Thanks God (father) and Jesus for their faith
That he always prays for the people of Rome and prays that he’ll get the chance to visit them to give them a spiritual gift
Being comforted by their mutual faith
He has tried before but has been hindered by other forces
Admits the technology of the Greeks and Barbarians have been useful so he repays this debt by spreading the gospel
“The just shall live by faith”
Rome and God
Paul’s purpose for writing to Rome
God’s wrath is revealed by heaven against the unjust and unrighteous
Humanity is guilty before God for unholiness and evil works
God created humanity and it is clearly shown
Yet humanity has grown vain and unthankful to their creator
Turning into fools who think they are wise
Changing God’s incorruptible image to man’s corruptible form as well as that of animals
Now God has let humanity spend their lift worshipping and praising themselves and other creations rather than the creator himself
Even genders have turned away from each other to the same (homosexuality) removing natural purpose of connection between the opposing genders
God has rewarded our rebellion by letting us do debased actions (fornication, coveting, murder, deceit, boasting, etc)
That we do without even thinking about the judgment of God. That each sin is worthy of death, and yet we just do them, not just habitually, but with pleasure.
