Recent policy and strategy contexts in sport and physical activity in England
Focus and approach of Sport England's strategy: Uniting the Movement (2021-2031)
Definition:
Policies, processes, and practices to provide sporting opportunities and positive experiences (Hylton, 2013)
Purposive interventions aimed at increasing participation and improving performance standards (Lyle, 2008)
Goals:
Manage structural and organizational changes to create pathways for individuals to achieve their potential in sport (Skills Active)
Policy: Guiding principles aimed at influencing decisions/actions for desired outcomes (Bloyce & Smith, 2010)
Public Policy: Refers to government decisions impacting short-term outputs and long-term outcomes (Hogwood & Gunn, 1984)
Differences Between Terms:
Policy = What (set guidelines)
Strategy = How (plan of action)
Intervention = Doing (action taken)

Variations noted between demographics, including income and age.

Today's lecture provided an in-depth understanding of the frameworks guiding sport policy and strategy in England, focusing on inclusivity, community engagement, and addressing historical inequalities.
