• Using the film industry to spread propaganda 

• HUAC called writers, producers and directors for questioning about communism in the Hollywood

• 19 people were named as communists but 10 refused to answer the questions 

• This led to them being jailed for a year and were blacklisted

• Most of the people never worked in the Hollywood again

• This increased publicity of HUAC’s work and increased anti-communist hysteria 

• It also had a big impact on Hollywood as film makers increased their production of anti-communist films
