Ser y Estar:

Ser Uses: D.O.C.T.O.R.

Estar Uses: P.L.A.C.E.

Qué y Cuál:

• Qué is used to give a definition, a profession, or a nationality

  Always used when followed by and adjective, a noun, or a verb other than Ser

• Cuál is used to give specific information or a selection from a number of possibilities; (can be translated to “which?”)

  Used when the verb Ser follows it, but only when it is saying “out of a specific amount” of something

Using Articles:

To give a persons profession, do NOT include an article (un, una, unos, unas)

 Lily es médica.

When referring to a description of the persons profession or quality of their profession, use an article

Lily es una médica excellente.

Verbs like gustar:

• Depending on the amount of what follows the verb (libro vs. libros) determines whether or not the verb is plural (gusta vs. gustan)
