AP statistics chapter 2 Stats modeling the world third edition by David E. Bock
This chapter introduces us to the concepts of data which is the information collected by
statisticians to conduct studies. Data is divided into 2 different categories, quantitative
and qualitative, with the first one being the data you can assign a value like money or
scores on tests, while the second is the data you cannot assign a value, for example:
satisfaction, eye colour, or style of writing. Furthermore when we take data we need to
take into account the 6 W’s which are:
● How: the data collected can make the difference between insight and nonsense.
● When: values recorded in 1803 may mean something different than similar
values recorded last year
● Where: values measured in Tanzania may differ in meaning from similar
measurements made in Mexico
● Who: usually, the rows of a data table correspond to individual cases in which we
record some characteristics.
● What: what individuals or individuals are we measuring is necessary to take
notes.
● Why: why do we take data is important for every study conducted since we need
to measure specific values for every study we conduct
