SkyWest CRJ Checkrides – Core Concepts & Procedures
AQP Grading System
- Electronic Grader (SP 2520)
- Accessible on SWOL → Info Center → Manuals → Flight Standards.
- All sessions entered immediately after training/checking.
- Grader path examples supplied for each curriculum (Initial, Upgrade, CQ, Recheck, etc.).
- Grade Codes for Training Sessions
- P = Proficient – meets/ exceeds Qualification Standard (QS).
- T = Training – progressing toward QS, additional practice required.
- D = Deficient – no progress/ regression after repeated attempts.
- Modules never closed with a “D”; completion standard determined by Fleet Mgr.
- Recommendation Requirements
- All tasks “P”, syllabus items accomplished.
- Leadership, Command & Professionalism (LCP) Behavioral Markers
- 5 major areas: Situational Leadership, PIC Mentoring, Command Ability, Professional Expectations, TEAM usage.
- 4-point scale (Grade 4 = Standard +, Grade 1 = Unsat) with detailed referents for CQ LOE, Qual LOE (Legs 1/2), Recheck LOE scenarios.
- Four-Point Grade Scale (Validations)
- 4 = error-free within QS.
- 3 = errors within QS, self-corrected.
- 2 = debrief to standard; outside QS but correctable.
- 1 = unsafe/ undesired aircraft state; repeat required.
- Event-Set Logic
- Any task graded 1 → entire event set 1.
- Unsat task not in set may still downgrade the set.
- Grader/ Session Status Flags
- Incomplete (non-Unsat disruptions) – reported to FAA.
- Unsat – unsafe or QS not met within time; FAA reported.
- Grader inop → use paper form on SWOL.
Simulator Inoperative Equipment (MMI)
- Instructor Responsibilities
- Verify MMI list in FFS logbook & IOS placards.
- MEL parallels: training allowed if aircraft MEL permits; checking/ LOFT requires operability if scenario needs the item.
- Major components down (motion, visuals, control loading, sound, intercom) → contact Fleet Training Mgr.
- Pre-flight
- Logbook pre-flight due-time countdown timers displayed on IOS/ device.
- Flight Simulator Record sheet completed each session.
IROPs / Unsats Handling
- In-Training in lieu of Recommend
- Review Student Detail Report & SP 3015 hours.
- Training Coord contacts pilot; instructor files Training Irregularity (estimated extra sessions, comments).
- Unsatisfactory Validations
- Pilot de-qualified until re-qualified; 5 days off (LOE) unless waived.
- Tier 1/2 special tracking triggers (unsats & extra hours).
- Equipment Failures / Sick Calls
- Notify techs & email crjtraining@skywest.com; mark session Incomplete.
- Sick: call coordinators or email/ phone Fleet Mgr.
Checkride & Curriculum Architecture
Chapter 04 – Qualification
- MV (Initial/Upgrade/SC) – full maneuver validation script (crosswind TO/LND, LOC, CAT I/II, holding, windshear, RTO, SE ops, evac, FO taxi).
- KV – oral validation; tasks include fuel planning, deice/ anti-ice, TLR performance, memory items, limitations, dispatch release, airworthiness; graded via dedicated paths.
- LOE 5/6 – scenario-based flights (SLC–BOI–SLC); detailed ATC scripts, LCP grading embedded.
- LOE 7 – recheck scenario (GEG–PDX–SEA) with emphasis on threat management and LCP remediation.
Chapters 05–07 – Continuing Qualification (2023, 2022, 2021)
- CQ flow: KV → LOE → MV; SPOT module precedes LOE for maneuver refresh.
- Each year supplied: simulator briefs, SPOT scripts (slow flight, stalls, UA, windshear, TCAS, etc.), MV maneuver tables, LOE event-set scripts.
- CQ notes: 2-hr briefings, 4-hr sim sessions (15 min break, fuel freeze rules), LOE repeat limits, English-language proficiency observation.
Maneuver & EET Highlights
- Stall Profiles (per Appendix A)
- Departure (TO), Clean (cruise), Approach-to-Land (conf F45). Recovery at shaker; demo to pusher in MV SPOT.
- UPRT / Bounced Landing Tool
- IOS functions to trigger wake/ pitch/ bank upsets and bounce for TTP training.
- Windshear Models
- T/O Model 3 (40 % ΔV), Landing Model 2 (35 %) — trigger heights set per script.
- EGPWS Escape – fly-over-idle until GPWS warning, execute published procedure (PUSH-TOGA-ROLL-CLIMB).
- TCAS – “MONITOR VS” RA emphasised; breakout procedures for PRM.
- Crosswind Ops
- Continuous ignition (CRJ 200) if crosswind > 10 kt on TO.
- CAAT crosswind limits: 200 = 27 kt TO / 32 kt LDG; 700/900 = 28 kt TO / 32 kt LDG (further restricted for RCC ≤ 3).
Deice / Anti-ice Program Essentials
- Clean Wing Concept – no contaminant on any critical surface; frost allowed ≤ ⅛'' underside wing tank.
- Cold Weather Pre-flight – required ≤ 5^{\circ}C or visible moisture; within 30 min of push.
- Hold-Over Time (HOT)
- Start when final anti-ice fluid application begins.
- Use GDPM charts; must reduce if mixed precipitation (e.g., SN+FG).
- Pretakeoff Check vs Contamination Check
- Check: within HOT, from flight deck, verify fluid effectiveness.
- Contamination Check: when HOT expired/ conditions change, tactile from outside (CRJ 200 only).
- TLR Data Elements: GTOW, MTOW, max temp, flap/bleed, N1, VR/ V2/ VFTO, flex vs normal thrust, simple/composite EFP.
- EFP Types
- Standard, Simple-Special (heading/course → altitude), Complex (FMS stored, Jepp textual), Terrain Escape.
- Comply to 1 500 AGL (IMC) or 1 000 AGL (VMC) non-radar.
- TALPA/ RCC
- Use lowest reported segment; if RCC ≤ 2 and Xwind > 10 kt → TO/LDG prohibited.
- If PIREP poorer than RCC, use PIREP.
- Fuel Terms
- Minimum fuel: CRJ 200 2{,}100 lb, 700 2{,}300 lb, 900 2{,}400 lb (approx – verify release).
- Emergency fuel: 30 min @ 1500' AFE (≈ 1{,}050 lb 200/ 1{,}350 lb 7/9).
- Bingo fuel calc uses burn from hold fix → destination → alternate @ planned altitude/route.
Aircraft Systems Quick-Reference
- Electrical
- AC priority: on-side GEN → APU → cross-side GEN → EXT.
- TRUs: 100 A (200) / 120 A (700/900); DC ground limit 5 min.
- AUTO XFER inhibits if overcurrent/ generator over/ under-freq.
- ADG: auto deploy < 100\,\text{kt} and complete loss of AC; wet = 330 kt, dry = 250 kt limits.
