My definition of sexism:
Discrimination based solely on one’s gender, typically favoring one gender over another, often manifesting in social, economic, or political inequalities. While women have faced this form of discrimination historically, men can also experience sexism in various contexts.
How might it apply to literary texts?
Sexism can be explored through the lens of the literature itself, or by analyzing the author’s experiences in their own historical and cultural context
It can also be examined by analyzing characters and plot that may be sexist in nature, whether it be accidental or intentional
Makes claims that are debatable
That are interpretive
That delve into the complexity of the text
