4 main components of blood and thier function

The four main components of blood are:

  1. Red Blood Cells (Erythrocytes)

    • Function: Transport oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and carbon dioxide from the tissues to the lungs.

    • Contain hemoglobin, an iron-rich protein that binds to oxygen.

  2. White Blood Cells (Leukocytes)

    • Function: Defend the body against infection and disease.

    • Types include neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils, each with specific immune functions.

  3. Platelets (Thrombocytes)

    • Function: Help in blood clotting.

    • They aggregate at the site of injury to form a plug and initiate the coagulation cascade.

  4. Plasma

    • Function: Liquid component of blood that carries blood cells, proteins, nutrients, hormones, and waste products.

    • Composed mainly of water, along with electrolytes, antibodies, and clotting factors.
