Jerzy Klueger - Childhood friend of JP2 from Wadowice. He was Jewish
Kotlarczyk - Theater actor, director, and mentor of JP2. Founded the underground theatre in Krakow, this is where JP2 and Kotlarczyk reconnected and rekindled their friendship/mentorship.
Sapieha - The Cardinal who hid young men in the Bishop’s house during the Nazi occupation to protect them and continue forming them in the Faith. He likely saved many lives including JP2’s.
Jerzy Ciesielski - JP2s friend that he met during his time going to Srodowisko. He was an engineer and felt strongly about the call lay people had to become saints too. He met his wife during the Srodowisko trips and JP2 said their nuptial mass. Tragically Ciesielski and his son died in a tragic accident on the Nile
Figlewicz - His childhood priest, his idol, who taught religion class at his high school and trained altar boys
Środowisko - mountain retreat place where JP2 took the young people during the nazi occupation so they could live and speak freely, especially about the faith and good things related to it
Wyszynski - “Primate of Poland”, imprisoned by the communist regime, defended the Polish Church against communism and the nazi regime and the Stalinist regime, mentored John Paul and helped elect him as Pope
Adam Chmielowski - Polish artist and religious of the St. Francis order, lost his leg in the Polish uprising against Russia of 1863
Cultural resistance -
Tyranowski - Devoted to becoming a Saint, took over youth ministry after the Salesian fathers were deported to Dachau. Created the paper virtue circles to give out to young men telling them to practice each for a week. Founded the living rosary young men’s group that JP2 was a part of
Rhapsodic theatre - The underground theatre in Krakow
Kowalski - Polish martyr who was sent to Auschwitz for teaching after Nazi occupation. In the concentration camp he secretly heard confessions, said Mass, and gave talks. His martyrdom was sped up when he was found with a rosary and refused to step on it. He was then executed. His story inspired many, including JP2 who started the process to beatify and sanctify the Polish Martyrs.
Living Rosary - Young men’s group created by Tyranowski where the men gathered together to pray the mysteries of the rosary together.
Jagiellonian University - University in Krakow that JP2 attended and taught at
Kalwaria - Monastery in Poland that JP2 visited many times throughout his life that was important to him and his formation as a Priest and Pope. He also took his students there
Wadowice - Hometown and birthplace of JP2
Wieliczka - town near Krakow with the really cool salt mine that has a chapel carved within it that also has a large carved statue of JP2 in it. (St. Kinga’s Chapel)

Love as good will - love as an active choice to seek the genuine good of another person, basically being selfless in acting for their welfare
Spousal love - a mutual gift of self that involves a deep commitment and responsibility for another person
