Comprehensive Study Notes for Commercial Driver's License Exam

What to Take to the Driver Licensing Office

  • Be prepared when arriving.
  • Always take primary and secondary identification and fees.

Knowledge Test:

  • Primary and secondary identification
  • Current license
  • Fees for the knowledge test and any outstanding debt
  • Arrive one hour before closing.

Road Tests:

  • Primary and secondary identification
  • Current license
  • Safe vehicle or combination that is acceptable for the class of license with registration and insurance papers (write down the license plate number(s))
  • Fees for the road test and photo license and any outstanding debts
  • Glasses or contact lenses, if required.
  • Arrive 15 minutes before the appointment time.

Notes:

  • All road tests are by appointment only.
  • Notify ICBC if you can't keep your road test appointment.
  • A fee is charged for no-shows without 48 hours notice or a valid reason.
  • Knowledge and road test fees vary; see icbc.com.
  • Read chapter 1 for more on getting your driver’s license.

Study + Practice = Success

  • Prepare for your tests!
  • Waiting periods for re-tests:
    • Knowledge & pre-trips: 7 days.
    • Class 1–4 road tests:
      • 1st attempt: 14 days
      • 2nd attempt: 30 days
      • 3rd + attempt: 30 days
    • Endorsement 20 road tests:
      • 1st attempt: 14 days
      • 2nd attempt: 30 days
      • 3rd + attempt: 60 days
