Faith

  • complete trust or confidence in someone or something

  • Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of reigion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof

Imagination

  • the act or power of forming a mental picture of something not present and especially of something one has not knwon or experienced

  • Forming ideas or conceps not present to the senses

  • The ability to visualize things which is not visual

  • This visualizes what faith knows to be true

“our faith needs imagination as much as our imagination needs our faith”

7 values of applying imagination to faith

  1. Creative thinking encourages lateral thinking - helps people reach beyond what they see

  2. Imagination helps us explore out understanding of “mystery” - takes us furrther than knowledge

  3. Imagination is a gift of God that has advances human culture

  4. God is unknowable but he is imaginable (Not as an image but through context and metaphors)

  5. We can relate to God through our imaginations and the metaphors and sybols used to convey our understading of God

  6. Imagination is part of our intercession (believing in God’s abilities and trusting what god could do)

  7. Imagination is essential for effective evangelism and teaching

Formation of the Four gospels

  • know that the gospels are not biographies of Jesus but accounts of faith experiences of Jesus’ followers who witnessed his deeds and words

  1. Early life and teaching of JEsus

    • Early life and works of Jesus

    • Public ministry niya

    • His actual teachings and adventures

  1. Oral tradition

    • oral passing down of Jesus’s stories by the disciples and apostles

    • After the Pentecost (decent of the holy spirit) - it empowered them to go out and fulfill the task of preseaching that Jesus has given them

  1. The written gospels

    • Bc ppl were getting old and dying and to avoid further changing the stories, they were written down, forming the Gospels

    • The preservation of the words and works of Jesus, especially His Passion, Death, and Resurrection

    • The Gospels faithfully and without error, give us the life of Jesus

    • His words and works reveal God’s love and ultimate meaning of ur expeirences and uplift and give hope to the life of all Christians
