Expressing What Would Be If Another Condition Were Met

A hypothetical statement expresses what one would do in a particular situation if certain conditions were met

• si j’avais mon smartphone en classe, j’enverrais des textos à mes amis
• je créerais une nouvelle appli, si j’avais une bonne idée

Use the conjunction si to express a hypothetical idea. Use l’imparfait after si to express the condition. In the next part, or the result of the sentence, use the conditional to express what would be the result of that condition. Si can either begin the first clause of the sentence or the second.
