261- Customize Processes

Process Analysis & Improvement

  • Always begin by analyzing the current process to identify problems or improvement opportunities.
  • Every Agile activity (backlog prioritization, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, development, reviews, retrospectives) follows a defined process.
  • Tools like value-stream mapping help visualize and diagnose process inefficiencies.

Process Tailoring

  • Definition: Amending an established methodology to better fit a specific project or organizational environment.
  • Goal: Deliver customer value faster and more cost-effectively.
  • The “best” Agile methodology = the one that works for your context.

Guiding Principles for Change

  • Change a process only for a clear, justified benefit—never “change for change’s sake.”
  • Evaluate the impact of any modification; avoid introducing complexity that degrades user experience or safety (e.g., car infotainment example).
  • Hybrid approaches (mixing traditional and Agile practices) are acceptable if they add value.

Exam vs. Real-Life Application

  • For certification exams: follow the prescribed methodology exactly—no tailoring.
  • In real projects: tailor and hybridize processes as necessary to maximize product/service value.
