Digestive System
The mouth digests the food through mechanical (chewing) and chemical (saliva) digestion to break it down The esophagus moves the food down using peristalsis The stomach chemically (stomach acid, enzymes) and mechanically (churning) digests the food, eventually moving it through the duodenum into the small intestine The liver produces bile+enzymes into the gallbladder which stores and releases them and the pancreas produces insulin as well as enzymes
The small intestine absorbs nutrients and water from the chyme into the bloodstream using villi
The large intestine absorbs any extra water and vitamins The food is excreted through the rectum
