What are Settings?

  • Understanding Settings:

    • A setting is characterized by a distinctive pattern of behavior.

Characteristics of Settings

  • Each city is unique due to its individual settings, shaped by three interacting factors:

    • Place: The physical location or environment.

    • People: The individuals present who engage with the environment.

    • Time: The temporal context in which activities occur.

Example: Mankato Civic Center

  • Business Convention Scenario:

    • Place: Mankato Civic Center transformed for business.

    • Behavior: Formal dress, product displays, professional conversations.

    • Time: Events occur during normal business hours.

  • Evening Concert Scenario:

    • Place: Civic Center bustling with concert-goers.

    • Behavior: Casual interactions as people arrive for entertainment.

    • Time: Event occurs in the evening, creating a different atmosphere.
