External Morphology Overview

WEEK 6: EXTERNAL MORPHOLOGY

BODY PLANES
  • Transverse Plane: Divides the body into cranial (anterior/front) and caudal (posterior/back) segments.

  • Sagittal Plane (Median Plane): Divides the body into bilateral halves (left and right).

    • Medial: Towards the midline (spine), Lateral: Away from the midline (limbs).

  • Dorsal: Relates to the back or spine, Ventral: Relates to the belly.

  • Frontal Plane: Divides the body into dorsal and ventral sections.

  • Terminology:

    • Proximal: Closer to the trunk of the body,

    • Distal: Further from the trunk.

    • Rostral: Closer to the mouth and nose.

EXTERNAL ANATOMY
  • Views: Anatomy will be studied from different perspectives, including:

    • Lateral View (Male): Key structures include Head, Thorax, Trunk, Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist, Tail, etc.

    • Ventral View (Male): Includes structures such as the Umbilical Cord, Urogenital Opening, Scrotal Sac.

    • Ventral View (Female): Morphological adaptations are examined, including the Genital Papilla and Urogenital Openings.
