Enumerated Powers - Powers that have been made explicit and that are clear that have been listed some place
Article 1, Section 8:
The power to levy taxes and collect revenue.
The power to regulate commerce with foreign nations, between states, and with Native American tribes.
The authority to establish laws regarding naturalization and bankruptcies.
The ability to coin money, regulate its value, and set standards for weights and measures.
The power to punish counterfeiters of U.S. currency.
The authority to establish post offices and post roads.
The power to promote the progress of science and useful arts by granting patents and copyrights.
The ability to constitute tribunals inferior to the Supreme Court.
The power to define and punish piracies and felonies committed on the high seas.
The authority to declare war and raise and support armies and navies.
The power to provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the militia.
The ability to make rules for the government and regulation of land and naval forces.
The authority to exercise exclusive legislation over the District of Columbia.
Implied Powers - Powers that aren’t as clear, but are assumed because of certain wording or in order to do the enumerated powers
