1.2

Atom- the smallest and most fundamental unit of matter

Molecule- a chemical structure consisting of at least two atoms held together by one or more chemical bonds

Macromolecules- large molecules that are typically formed by polymerization. EX) DNA

Organelles- cells containing aggregates of macromolecules surrounded by membranes

or Organelles- small structures that exist within cells Ex) mitochondria and chloroplasts

Life's Building Blocks | CK-12 Foundation

All living things are made up of cells- the smallest fundamental unit of strucuture and function in living organisms

Prokaryotes- - single celled, DO not have a membrane bound nuclei.

Eukaryotes- Multi cell, Membrane bound organelles and membrane bound nucleus.

single-celled organisms of the domains Bacteria and Archaea are classified as prokaryotes

Animal cells, plant cells, fungi, and protists are eukaryotes

The source of diversity is Evolution.

phylogenic tree- a diagram that depicts the lines of evolutionary descent of different species, organisms, or genes from a common ancestor.
