What to Take to the Driver Licensing Office
Whether applying for a commercial driver's license, transferring from another jurisdiction, or taking a re-examination, ensure preparedness by bringing:
- Primary and secondary identification (see inside of back cover).
- Fees for requested services or licenses.
Knowledge Test Requirements:
- Primary and secondary identification (see inside of back cover).
- Current license.
- Fees for the knowledge test and any outstanding debt.
- Arrive one hour before closing to take the knowledge test.
Road Tests Requirements:
- Primary and secondary identification.
- Current license.
- Safe vehicle acceptable for the license class, along with registration and insurance.
- Write down the vehicle's license plate number(s) to provide to staff.
- Fees: Applicable road tests and photo license fees, plus any outstanding debts.
- Glasses or contact lenses, if required.
- Arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled road test appointment time.
Road Tests Notes:
- All road tests are by appointment only; booking ahead is mandatory.
- ICBC must be notified for road test cancellations.
- Failure to show up for a scheduled road test without providing a 48-hour notice or a valid reason results in a fee.
- Knowledge and road test fees vary by test type, refer to ICBC website for a detailed listing.

Study + Practice = Success
- Prepare thoroughly for all tests!
- Waiting periods are enforced before reattempts can be made if you do not qualify on a knowledge test, pre-trip or road test.
Re-test Waiting Periods
- Knowledge & pre-trips: 1st attempt - 7 days, 2nd attempt - 7 days, 3rd+ attempt - 7 days
- Class 1–4 road tests: 1st attempt - 14 days, 2nd attempt - 30 days, 3rd+ attempt - 30 days
- Endorsement 20 road tests: 1st attempt - 14 days, 2nd attempt - 30 days, 3rd+ attempt - 60 days
