DESCRIPTION

  • It is to focus on the superficial attribution, the division and breaking down of parts, and the analysis of a particular topic.


PARTS OF A DESCRIPTION

  • Superficial attribution

    • physical attributes, innate values (such as personalities, abilities, and skills), and additional descriptions​

  • Division

    • division of topic into smaller parts

  • Analysis

    • an in-depth objective commentary about a particular object, event, or even a person​


DEFINITION

  • It is the thorough explanation of a term with regard to its being, origin, purpose, and function.


ANATOMY OF DEFINITION

  • Term

    • the word that you are about to define

  • Genus

    • the classification or the association you make when you hear the word

  • Differentia

    • the defining factor that separates the term from the other members of the genus it is classified to


EXEMPLIFICATION

  • It is the act of giving specific examples or instances of a particular topic, regardless if one example is higher than the other.


CLASSIFICATION

  • It is the act of giving subordinated examples/instances that belong to a hierarchy.


COMPARISON AND CONTRAST

  • It is the act of analyzing two subjects by either comparing them, contrasting them, or both.


CAUSE AND EFFECT

  • A cause is a reason why something happened, and an effect is the result of the cause.


PROBLEM-SOLUTION

  • A common type of academic writing that identifies a specific issue and proposes one or more ways to address it.
