Leadership from a Dancing Guy

  • Man looks stupid
  • People are just ignoring him
  • But then someone comes in and joins him and tries to imitate him
  • Then stupidity turns into something fun
  • When a second person joins, it becomes something fun
  • Then, a group becomes a crowd
  • Then, the people who don't join look dumb instead of following the group
  • Movement doesn't come without the first follower

Notes with the Class:

  • Being a leader is hard
  • A leader needs the guts to stand alone and look dumb
  • You must be easy to follow
  • The leader embraces the first follower as an equal
  • It takes guts to be the first follower
  • Brave being outcast
  • The first follower transforms the lone nut into a leader
  • A movement must be public
  • Momentum is the tipping point
  • When you join a movement it's not risky; you won't stand out
  • Leadership is over-glorified
  • Show others how to follow

I took this image as not just a director, but someone who takes a piece of music and a group of people, and turns that singular piece of paper into a harmonic symphony for other people to enjoy.
