Definition of Illnesses

• 1. Deviant: from statistical or social norms

  • Not all variations from the norm are labeled as negative or abnormal

  • Situational context: the social or environmental setting of a person’s behavior

• 2. Distressful/Subjective discomfort: emotional distress or discomfort in certain contexts

  • Ex: experiencing intense anxiety when trying to leave the house

• 3. Dysfunctional/Inability to function normally

  • maladaptive thinking or behavior: anyhtig that does not allow a person to fit into socety or function normally
