Slide 1 & 7: Title Slide and Reference List

  • Assignment 2 overview: develop a personal philosophy of learning and teaching and consider implications for being an exemplary teacher.
  • Length: a 10 minute Zoom presentation consisting of a scripted 5 minute delivery aligned to seven PowerPoint slides, plus responses to 3–5 minutes of impromptu questions from the audience and lecturer.
  • Weighting: 50\% of the course grade.
  • Submission: create no more than seven (7) PowerPoint slides outlining your philosophy; submit the presentation to vUWS by the due date and include a reference list.
  • Presentation logistics: must have stable internet, quiet location, and working camera and microphone; audience and lecturer will be present via Zoom.

Slide 7: Reference List (APA7) and Rubrics

  • Slide 7 must be a reference list using APA7.
  • Rubric Criteria 4 (PASS level): Generally clear structured presentation within the slide limit.
  • Rubric Criteria 5 (PASS level): Most references are scholarly, including some from subject content; not a heavy reliance on commercial websites.
  • In-text citations and reference list mostly correct; the four elements of APA (creator, copyright date, title of work and source of work) present in all reference list citations.
  • List is alphabetically ordered, double spaced with hanging indents.
  • In-text citations include page numbers, etc., if directly quoting, and are matched in the reference list.

    • Use visually appealing, relevant images; ensure slides are not text-heavy.
  • Oral Presentation Tips
    • Rubric Criteria 1 (PASS level): Presentation spoken clearly with some eye contact; brief answers to questions.
    • Rubric Criteria 4 (PASS level): Clear and prepared professional oral presentation with some eye contact; within time limit; images are well chosen and reflect respect for children; in-scope terms are clear.
  • Practice Guidelines (Zoom/Screen Sharing)
    • Practice presenting your philosophy, not reading a script.
    • Make eye contact with the camera; use a quiet space; present from a laptop or desktop computer.
    • Log in 10 minutes early; you may be placed in a waiting room.
    • If the session drops, log back in; camera must be on the whole time; microphone on only during your presentation; stay for the whole session.
    • Presentations will be in order; may be recorded by the lecturer for double marking.

Question Time

  • At the end of your 5-minute delivery, the lecturer and peers may ask questions to clarify and expand on details.
  • The goal is to ensure a clear understanding of your philosophy and to provide deeper insight.
