Cartilage and Bone Structures
Cartilage Types
Hyaline Cartilage:
Described as "in between" in terms of flexibility and support compared to other cartilage types.
Found largely in the respiratory tract.
Fibrocartilage:
Contains densely packed collagen fibers.
Provides a lot more support than elastic cartilage.
Elastic Cartilage:
Most flexible type of cartilage.
Offers some flexibility, but not as much as fibrocartilage.
Bone Structure: Haversian System (Osteon)
Haversian System (Osteon):
Also referred to as a reversion system.
Features concentric circles called lamellae.
Lamellae:
Concentric layers surrounding the Haversian canal.
Contain osteocytes (bone cells).
Osteocytes:
Bone cells found within the lamellae.
