  • June 23, 1898: creation of the Department of Public Works Education, now Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Education, Culture and Sports and Department of Health respectively through the proclamation of President Emilio Aguinaldo 

  • September 29, 1898: establishment of the Board of Health for the city of manila under general order number 15 

  • 1901: ACT 157 Board of Health in the Philippines and ACT 309 municipal board of health were created 

  • 1905: board of health was abolished: function was transferred to the bureau of health 

  • 1912: ACT 2156 or Fajardo Act created sanitary divisions, the forerunners of present MHO. Male nurses performs the function of doctors

  • 1919: ACT 2808 nurses law was created. Carmen del Rosario was the first filipino nurse supervisor under the Bureau of Health 

  • Oct. 22, 1922: filipino nurses organization was organized

  • 1948: first training center of the bureau of health was organized by the Pasay City Health Department 

  • 1950: rural health demonstration and training center was created 

  • 1951: development of rural health unit which delivers several medical services 

  • 1953: first 81 rural health units were organized 

  • 1967: Zenaida Nisce became the nursing supervisor and consultant of the six special diseases particularly tb, leprosy, vd, cancer filariasis, and mental health illness

  • 1970: reconstructed healthcare delivery system to primary secondary and tertiary levels of care 

  • 1972: renamed to ministry of health during the martial law and Secretary Gatmaitan was the first minister of health

  • 1987: MOH was renamed back to department of health by President Cory Aquino 

  • 1982: EO851 reorganized ministry of health as an integrated provincial health office combining public health and hospital operations under the PHOs

  • 1991: local government code devolved health sector doctor to the various national micronutrient campaign 

  • 1999 to 2004: development of the health sector reform agenda 

  • 2005 to 2015: formula 1 for health financing regulation service delivery and governance 

  • 2012: Sin Tax Law 

  • 2015: Universal Healthcare 

  • 2016: Philippine Health Agenda 2016 to 2022
