  • The elements and principles of art are important not just to the artist but also to the viewer, to have a deeper understanding of an artwork.
  • The Elements of art are space, line, shape, color, value, and texture.
  • Space - refers to the distance between the area around and within shapes, forms, colors, and lines.
  • Line - Vertical, curved, and diagonal are some representations of this element of art.
  • Shape - This element of art refers to the two-dimensional figures.
  • Color - refers to the way we see different shades and tones in pictures or paintings.
  • Value - It refers to the lightness or darkness of colors.
  • Texture - It pertains to the surface of an art piece.
  • The Principles of art are proportion, harmony, variety, movement, rhythm, balance, and emphasis.
  • Proportion - refers to the relationship of the size of elements in a body of art.
  • Harmony - It is the unity of the artwork, specifically about the arrangement of the related elements.
  • Variety - refers to the use of different qualities or instances of visual elements.
  • Movement - is the illusion of motion in a painting, sculpture design, or in a piece of art.
  • Rhythm - This principle of art refers to the repetition of certain elements that will produce a pattern in a piece of art.
  • Balance - It refers to the even distribution of elements in a piece of art.
  • Emphasis - refer to the greater impact given on a certain element.

  • PHILIPPINE MODERN ART(1946-1970)
  • The support of the Philippine Government For the arts via the creation of theCultural Center of the Philippines During 1969 gave a venue for all artists to experiment and explore different art mediums.
  • Philippine Contemporary Art (1980s to Present)
  • It was on the on-set of the sudden rise of personal computers and new technology created a new art medium for the arts and human expression.

1. Visual Arts - Known as spatial arts because it is an art form that occupy space Includes: Painting, Sculpture and Architecture

  • Graphic Arts - Visual art forms with length and width known as two-dimensional arts (2D Art)
  • Plastic Arts - Visual arts with length, width and volume known as three-dimensional arts (3D Art)

LESSON III - Contemporary Art Forms from the Regions / National Artists

  1. Visual art is an expression of artistic ideas through images, structures, and tactile work. Painting, sculpture, architecture, and film are examples of visual arts.
  2. Painting the expression of ideas and emotions, with the creation of certain aesthetic qualities, in a two-dimensional visual language.
  3. Sculpture is an art form in which hard or plastic materials are worked into three-dimensional art objects.
  4. Architecture is the art and practice of designing and constructing buildings
  5. Film is a form of visual art used to imitate experiences that communicate ideas, stories, or feelings with the use of moving images. It is also called a movie or motion picture.
  6. Literary arts are an expression of ideas through writing. Literary arts can be categorized as . poetry, prose, and drama
  7. Literature is a term used to describe written and sometimes spoken material.
