Explain the major differences between the 1st Continental Congress and the 2nd Continental Congress. The 1st continental congress was called to address grievances against the British government and the 2nd continental congress was initially called for the same reason but once it voted to declare independence it acted as de facto an independent nation.

Explain how Enlightenment ideas and the dissatisfaction over Britain's control over the colonies led to the Declaration of Independence. Be sure to address how natural rights, self government and social contracts influenced the Declaration.

The British had to fully crush the rebellion in all of the colonies and reestablish British rule. This involved defeating the Continental Army and loyalist militias, as well as gaining control over key territories to assert British authority.The key factor that turned the tide for the Americans was the intervention of other nations into the conflict. Without the help of Spain, the Netherlands, and especially France, it's unlikely the colonists would have prevailed. The Americans plan worked out because they got help from France and Spain which are enemies with the British so they had extra forces to win the war.
