Health and safety at work act (1974) - employers are legally obligated to ensure the workplace is safe for it’s employees. Includes, but is not limited to nominating health and safety officer, ensuring regular breaks and satisfactory equipment. Equipment safe to use, and PPE provided where necessary. Risk assessments must be carried out and be reviewed regularly. Employees must co-operate with safety measures.
Control of substances hazardous to health (2011)- ensures where necessary employees are protected in their use of potentially hazardous substances. Must be stored, labelled, and reviewed appropriately, and PPE must be provided where necessary.
Consumer Rights Act (2015) - Products must be of satisfactory quality to that of price paid, be fit for purpose, and as described.
General product safety regulations (2005)- Manufacturers must provide safe goods for consumers.
Trades descriptions act (2011) - No false advertising or misleading statements.
Furniture and furnishings (fire safety amendments) regulations (1993)- level of fire resistance for example in home furnishings, and labelled appropriately.
Nightwear (safety) regulations (1985) - Nightwear garments must be of appropriate fire resistance and tested, or feature KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE in red on non-removable label.
Toys (safety) regulations (2011) - Must ensure toys are labelled appropriately (such as 3+), feature no obvious hazards such as loose buttons, and ensure dressing up costumes are safe.
