Assessment

Assessment Slide Scale: formative-screeners-CBMs-diagnostic-summative

formative: teacher, a frequent form of instruction

screeners: universal for all, determines who needs what

CBMs: curriculum-based measurements, monitor progress regularly

diagnostic: before instruction to determine needs, strengths

summative: what does the student know, what did they learn?

The key is to monitor progress: Provides feedback for the teacher; can make adjustments quickly; reflect on own teaching  Measures student growth and achievements; collects information/data  Assessments need to be valid and reliable (and quick in my opinion); aligned to standards

Reliability: Consistent over time  Scale:  a scale is reliable if when weighing a 5-pound bag of potatoes on Monday, it is still 5-pounds on Friday.  Tests:  A test is reliable if a student gets the same (or near the same) score if takes in the morning and then in the afternoon

Validity: Measures what it is supposed to measure Scale: The scale is valid if is weighs the potatoes at 5 pounds and it is actually 5 pounds (not 10 pounds). Tests: A test is valid if it matches the learning targets.  Is the 3rd grade Reading MCA actually measuring 3rd grade reading standards?
