Mitosis

Chromosomes: 1 large piece of DNA

Mitosis: Steps of dividing DNA

Chromatin: Loosley coiled DNA, Good for reading instructions

Chromatid: Tightly coiled DNA, Good for transport

Centriole: Connects spindle fibers

Prophase:

  • 1st step of mitosis

  • Nuclear Membrane disappears

  • Nucleolus disappears

  • Centrioles begin to move in opposite directions

  • Cytoskeleton disappears

  • Spindle Fivers grow out of centrioles and centromeres

Metaphase:

  • Centrioles at opposite parts

  • Sister chromatids are lined up at the equator

  • Spindle fibers attach chromosomes to both poles

Anaphase:

  • Centromere breaks

  • Sister chromatids move toward opposite parts (forms β€œV”)

Telophase:

  • The nuclear membrane and Nucleus reappear

  • Spindle Fibers β†’ Cytoskeleton

  • Chromatid β†’ Chromatin

Cytokinesis:

  • Divide cytoplasm and organelles

  • Cytoskeleton chokes the cells in half

  • Creates identical daughter cells in interphase
