6.1 experimental techniques to investigate capacitor - resistor circuits

• To investigate charge or discharge of a capacitor

• set up a circuit with a DC power supply, capacitor, resister and ammeter in series, voltmeter in parallel

• Use data logger to collect data in time

• Plot current and voltage against time

• Voltage/ current readings taken at set intervals, small compared to time constant

• Experimental determination of time constant, compare this to value calculated with resistance and capacitance
