Components of fitness
There are 11 components of fitness:
The skill related 6 can be remembered with the acronym CRABSP
- Coordination: The ability to use two or more body parts together
- Reaction time: The time taken to respond to a stimulus
- Agility: The ability to change the position of the body quickly and control the movement
- Balance: The ability to maintain the body’s centre of mass above the base of support
- Speed: The ability to put body parts into motion quickly
- Power: The force output by your muscles in a given time
The other 5 are health related components:
- Cardiovascular endurance: The ability of the heart, lungs and blood to transport oxygen around the body
- Body composition: The percentage of bodyweight which is fat, muscle and bone
- Muscular strength: The amount of force a muscle can exert against a resistance
- Muscular endurance: The ability for a muscle to contract repeatedly without fatigue
- Flexibility: The range of motion available at a joint
