Diversity in the workplace - means having a workforce inclusive of different backgrounds and national origins. It means gender, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity — and beyond. It also means that the organization fosters a sense of belonging that makes everyone feel like they are part of the team.
SURFACE-LEVEL DIVERSITY - Differences in easily perceived characteristics, such as gender, race, ethnicity, age, or disability, that do not necessarily reflect the ways people think or feel but that may activate certain stereotypes.
DEEP-LEVEL DIVERSITY - Differences in values, personality, and work preferences that become progressively more important for determining similarity as people get to know one another better.
STEREOTYPING - judging someone on the basis of our perception of the group to which that person belongs.
STEREOTYPE THREAT - describes the degree to which we internally agree with the generally negative stereotyped perceptions of our groups.
Discrimination - making judgements about individual based on stereotypes
Discriminatory policies - actions taken by representatives of organization that deny equal opportunity to perform
Sexual harassment - unwanted sexual advances and other verbal physcial conduct of sexual nature
Intimidation - overthreats or bullying directed at members
Mockery - jokesor negative stereotypes
Exclusion - exclusion of certain people from job opportunities
Incivility - disrespectful treatment including behaving in an agressive manner
BIOGRAPHICAL CHARACTERISTICS - age, gender, race, and disability are some of the most obvious ways employees differ.
AGE - The length of time that a person has lived.
Sex - refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define humans as female or male.
RACE - is a controversial issue in society and in organizations.

ETHNICITY - is the additional set of cultural characteristics that often overlaps with race.
POSITIVE DIVERSITY CLIMATE - In an organization, an environment of inclusiveness and an acceptance of diversity.
DISABILITIES - Workplace policies, both official and circumstantial, regarding individuals with physical or mental disabilities vary from country to country.
American with disabilities (ADA,1990) employers are required to make reasonable accommodations so their workplaces will be accessible to individuals with physical or mental disabilities
Hidden Disabilities - Hidden, or invisible, disabilities generally fall under the categories of sensory disabilities, autoimmune disorders, chronic illness or pain, cognitive or learning impairment, sleep disorder, and psychological challenges.
Tenure - The period of time a person holds a position or office.
Sexual Orientation and Identity - An umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or expression is different from cultural expectations based on the sex they were assigned at birth.
CULTURAL IDENTITY - Are the distinct identities of people or groups in cultural or subcultural categories and social groups.
Ability - is an individual’s current capacity to perform the various task in a job. Overall abilities essentially made up of two sets of factors; intellectual and physical
General Mental Ability (GMA) - an overall factor of Intelligence, as suggested by the positive correlations among specific intellectual ability dimensions.
Intellectual Abilities are abilities needed to perform mental activities- thinking, reasoning, and problem solving.
Number Aptitude - ability to do speedy arithmetic
Verbal Comprehension - ability to understand what is read or heard and the relationships of words to each other
Perceptual speed - Ability to identify visual similarities
Inductive Reasoning - ability to identify logical sequence
Deductive - ability to use logic and asses the implications ofan argument
Spatial visualization - ability to imagine how an object would look if its position in spaces changes
Memory - ability to retain and recall past experiences\
Dynamic Strength - ability to exert muscular force repeatedly or continuously over time
Static Strength - ability to exert force against external objects
Explosive Strength - ability to expend a maximum of energy in one or a series of explosive act
Extent Flexibility - ability to move the trunk and back muscles as far as possible

Diversity Management - makes everyone more aware and sensitive to the needs and differences of needs of others
Workplace diversity involves having a diverse workforce with different biographical characteristics, such as age, gender, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation, and cultural identity.
