Core Beliefs

  • Paschal Mystery: Jesus’ Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension.

  • Holy Trinity: One God in three Persons – Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

  • Divine Revelation: God revealing Himself through Scripture and Tradition.

  • Faith: Virtue that enables belief in God and His revelations.

  • Ruah (breath): Symbol of the Holy Spirit as life-giver.

Role of the Church & Laity

  • Laity are baptized members who are not clergy.

  • Church is holy because Jesus is united with it and gave it the Holy Spirit.

  • Immaculate Conception: Mary was born without original sin.

  • Why venerate Mary: She is the Mother of God and a model of faith.

  • Why venerate Saints: For inspiration and intercession.


💀 Sin and Salvation

  • Mortal Sin: Destroys relationship with God (must be confessed).

  • Venial Sin: Weakens, but does not break, relationship with God.

  • Capital Sins: Root causes of other sins.

    • Magisterium – The teaching authority of the Church.

    • Dogma – A truth the Church teaches that all Catholics must believe.

    • Divine Providence – God's plan and care for everything in the world.

    • Infallibility – The Church cannot be wrong when teaching about faith or morals.

    • Canon Law – The rules and laws of the Church.

    • Evangelization – Sharing the message of Jesus with others.

    • Monotheistic – Belief in one God.

    • Polytheistic – Belief in many gods.

    • Sin – Choosing to do wrong or not do good.

    • Venial Sin – A small sin that weakens our friendship with God.

    • Mortal Sin – A serious sin that breaks our friendship with God.

    • Capital Sin – A main or deadly sin that leads to more sins.

    • Blasphemy – Speaking badly about God or holy things.

    • Immaculate Conception – Mary was free from sin from the moment she was born.

    • Assumption of Mary – Mary was taken body and soul into Heaven.

    • Communion of Saints – All members of the Church: in Heaven, in Purgatory, and on Earth.

    • Purgatory – A place of cleaning before going to Heaven.

    • Incarnation – God becoming human in Jesus.

    • Salvation – Being saved from sin and given life with God.

    • Sacred Heart of Jesus – A symbol of Jesus’ love for all people.
