How to Extract DNA from Kiwi - Core Practical
Use pestle and mortar to crush the kiwi - this breaks up the cell wall
Add water, salt (DNA is insoluble to salt water but not water - makes sure it doesn’t dissolve, and salt also breaks through cell wall) and washing up liquid to a beaker (which breaks up the cell membrane and parts of the nucleus)
Stir slowly until salt is dissolved
Add kiwi to mixture
Put beaker in hot water bath
Filter solution
Drizzle ice cold ethanol around the beaker to attract (idk if thats the right word) the DNA which will look like limescale
Use glass rod to lift out the white substance
